Concert Previews

Each season the Rio Hondo Symphony Guild, the orchestra's major support group, hosts a Concert Preview Friday mornings prior to the concerts. Music lovers gather at 10 a.m. at the First Friends Church of Whittier, 13205 Philidelphia Street. After light refreshments, an expert in the field of music offers fascinating facts and anecdotes about the composers and the concert offerings. Guests are always welcome.

Conductor Kimo Furumoto

Kimo Furumoto currently is in his ninth season as the Rio Hondo Symphony's Conductor and Music Director. Furumoto holds conducting degrees from Chapman University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Williametta Spencer

Dr Williametta Spencer was commissioned to write a new orchestral work, "Celebration for an Orchestra," for the 75TH Anniversary of the Rio Hondo Symphony. She has a long association with Whittier College. She also served as organist and director of music at Whittier Presbyterian Church until 2016 when the church closed.

Dr. Stephen Gothold is Founding conductor of Chorale Bel Canto and its Music Director since 1981. He served as Director of Choral Activities at Whittier College from 1977 to 2003.
